Hazardous Waste Site Characterization and Remediation

Field analytics and sensors, combined with web sites for data organization and presentation, facilitate real-time characterization and remediation efforts.

The characterization and remediation of hazardous waste sites have proven to be costly and technically challenging problems for the nation. EVS has been at the forefront in developing, testing and implementing new approaches to characterization, remediation, and site closure, particularly for federal facilities.

Because the generation, management and dissemination of information are critical to the success of hazardous waste site remediation, EVS has focused on enhancing information management through the use of Internet technologies so that site information is accessible to technical staff, regulators and concerned stakeholders who are geographically dispersed. These technologies are particularly important when implementing techniques that rely on the in-field, real-time generation of data and adaptive decision-making. Adaptive decision-making requires immediate and common access to information for rapid problem resolution and consensus building.

Web sites that EVS has designed to support remediation work have won awards, including a DOE Pollution Prevention Award. When coupled with innovative characterization and remediation technologies, these web sites have helped sponsors save money. Follow the links below to learn more about Internet applications developed by EVS to support hazardous waste site characterization and remediation.
