Veil Honored for Contributions to Environmental Protection

7/29/2009

John Veil PhotoJohn Veil, a senior engineer in Argonne's Environmental Science Division, has been named the 2009 recipient of the Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Social Responsibility Award of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

This is the highest SPE award given in the environmental field. It recognizes outstanding achievement or contributions to the advancement of petroleum engineering in the field of environmental protection, health or safety in oil and gas exploration, drilling or production operations.

A few of Veil's contributions that led to this award include being a SPE Distinguished Lecturer for 2008-2009; his lecture was on produced-water management. Veil also served as the environment editorial board representative for SPE's Journal of Petroleum Technology, and was a member of the planning committees for the last four biennial SPE environment and safety conferences.

Veil will receive the award Oct. 5 at the SPE Awards Banquet during the Society's Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, being held this year in New Orleans.
