Internet-based Information Management and Communication
Environmental data management and communication is at the core of everything EVS does. Historically, EVS has always had strong capabilities in environmental database design, environmental data analysis, Geographical Information Systems, scientific visualization, and environmental modeling. More recently, EVS has developed innovative ways of using World Wide Web technologies for simplifying the process of organizing, integrating, managing and communicating environmental data. Currently EVS maintains almost 40 web sites designed to support specific environmental data management and communication needs for sponsors. Use of these sites has grown dramatically since the first site was established in 1996. EVS has successfully applied web technologies to environmental compliance tracking, policy formulation, emergency response, infrastructure management, real-time remediation support, public information and involvement, guidance promulgation, environmental restoration program management, technology transfer, and environmental monitoring. For sponsors, the benefits have included greater stakeholder involvement, simplified management processes, cost savings, and improved technical products.
